BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Oriental Negros Philippine National Police Command was recently named as the number one PNP provincial office for year 2006 in Central Visayas or Region 7.

The award from the Internal Affairs Service of the PNP was announced during the command conference at the regional office recently. Police provincial director S/Supt. Melvin Buenafe said this was for their exemplary performance in operation and administration. It was also in recognition of their successful effort in the campaign against criminality and maintaining a peaceful environment in the province, he said.

The police had declared that Oriental Negros was generally peaceful during the May 14 elections. It also recorded the least number of cases filed against police officers compared to other provinces in the region.

The award was also based on the merits of the Annual General Inspection conducted last November 2006, police records showed. Its Police Community Relations and the Intelligence Division in the province also ranked number one in Region 7.

From April to May this year, its Operations Division was the second best in the region This week, another Annual General Inspection will be conducted in all police provincial offices and stations nationwide. The result of the inspection will become the basis for the national award.*JG
