Voters assured of clean polls
BY RENE GENOVE

The Commission on Elections and the Philippine National Police in Oriental Negros have assured voters and candidates of a clean, honest, orderly and peaceful conduct of the May 14 polls.

In an organizational meeting of the Diocesan Provincial Electoral Board, police provincial director Sr. Superintendent Melvin Ramon Buenafe said, there is no indication of violence in any local government unit in the province.

Buenafe, however, said the PNP is evaluating some LGUs declared as election hotspots in the 2004 election. He added that the police is also strengthening its preparations for the implementation of election prohibitions, such as the gun ban, to avoid a repetition of the ambush that killed the mayoralty candidate in Canlaon City.
