BBC downs Summit;
Province prevails, too

Defending champion BBC clipped Summit Mineral Water, 91-89, for its second victory while the Province of Negros Occidental trounced Sexbomb-Barangay 10, 94-78, Saturday night to barge into the win column of the 7th Tan Kek Pin Memorial Basketball Tournament at the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

After Salvador Bonza tied the game at 89, Joebert Pastias and Rico Cabato split their free throws with 24 seconds down the stretch to preserve the win for BBC, which now leads bracket D with a 2-0 slate.

The Province, which used all of its 20 cagers, relied on its balanced offensive attack to outscore Brgy. 10, 64-43, in the second half for the victory and improve to 1-1 in bracket C.

On Friday, AA Electrical posted a come-from-behind 82-79 triumph over last year's runner-up Talisay Basketball Athletic Club, before Valiant Bank notched its second win by defeating Gard Shampoo, 91-84.

In the BBC-Summit encounter, Cabato and Jeff Nipocpan scored on lay-ups as Valiant went on a 6-0 spurt for an 89-86 buffer, before Bonza tied the game.

Cabato anchored BBC's attack with 18 points, all coming in the second half as Pastias had 11 markers. Bobot Divinagracia and Robert Buņol contributed 10 points each, while Al Espino, Nipocpan and Ronald Arabia chipped in 6 markers apiece.

Bonza paced Summit with 23 points, while Jessimar Gabihan and Arvin Gustilo shot 18 and 11 markers, respectively. Bol Manaloto and Arvin Chua combined for 15 points.

Entering the third quarter with a 30-35 deficit, the Province leaned on Mark Ramos and Rex Bayer, who erupted for 15 and 11 points, respectively, in the period and give their squad a comfortable 66-46 bulge against Brgy. 10 that was limited to a measly 11-point quarter.

Bert Celis carried the scoring load for the Province in the payoff quarter, exploding for 19 points, while Frederick Premaylon, Jun Tumamot, Joseph Arenas and Rodel Vasquez added 6 markers each. Pacing Brgy. 10 in a losing effort was Louie Gonzaga with 13 points, while Ronald Delada ended up with 12 markers. Giovance Maceda and Raffy Silpao chipped in 11 and 6 points, respectively. *CIT
