Budget woes hit
Negros bid in Prisaa

With only a week to go before the Regional Private Schools and Athletics Games, the Negros delegation is still scraping the bottom of the jar to reach its approved budget of about P445,000 for the regional event that will be hosted by Iloilo and Capiz.

Roger Banzuela, chairman of the NOPSSCEA Sports Task Force, said that the contingent still has no funds for the school-based meet because some of its member-schools have yet to pay its remittances.

Banzuela, who also serves as the Western Visayas PRISAA technical committee chairman, said that they need P127,190 today to pay for the advance reservations of their transportation.

Banzuela, who is also the Region VI PRISAA athletic manager, said that the first batch of the delegation, composed of 48 athletes from football and athletics, will leave for Iloilo on Feb. 4 via Weesam Express.

The second batch of the contingent, which is comprised of 117 bets, will leave for Dumangas on Feb. 5 via Roll-on, Roll-off vessel before taking the bus to Capiz, he said.

The athletics and football hostilities are scheduled from Feb. 5-6 in Iloilo, while the other disciplines will be played in Capiz from Feb. 8-11 after the formal opening ceremonies on the morning of Feb. 8.

Banzuela said that the bulk of the allocation will be spent for the meals of the Negrense athletes and officials amounting to P233,250, while the uniforms cost P35,375.

NOPSSCEA has decided to only provided the athletes with uniforms on top in order to save because P17,484 is still needed for the equipment and contingency, he added.

Negros brought home the overall crown of the regional hostilities last year against standouts from Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan and Antique. *CIT
