Cops recover jewelry, guns

The police have recovered guns, jewelry, water meters and other personal belongings reportedly stolen by minors in Talisay City, Negros Occidental.

Chief Inspector Thomas Joseph Martir yesterday said the Theft and Robbery Section led by SPO1 Godofredo Lobaton recovered two white gold rings with diamonds valued at P200,000, a Nokia cellphone, Seiko wrist watch, a bayonet, a .38 caliber revolver, telescope and a lighter made like a revolver. The items were stolen from the house of Francisco de Jose in Brgy. Concepcion, the police said.

Also recovered were 21 water meters. Martir, officer-in-charge of the Talisay police, said the jewelries were voluntarily turned over by Lilia Belgar of Brgy. Alangilan, Bacolod City, who alleged that it was left with her by the suspects.

On the other hand, the stolen cellphone, wrist watch, bayonet and lighter that looks like a gun, were surrendered to the Talisay police by a certain Regie Delgado, the father of one of the minor suspects.

Meanwhile, the .38 caliber revolver and telescope were surrendered by Brgy. Capt. Dodjie Tanista Sr., who also claimed they weere surrendered to him by a concerned citizen in Brgy. Alangilan, Bacolod City.

Martir said the three suspects in the theft of the items on Jan. 24, were turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development and to their respective parents.

The police also seized an improvised 12-gauge shotgun from a 13-year-old who accidentally shot his 14-year-old playmate in Sitio Catamnan, Brgy. Concepcion, Talisay City.

Police investigations show that the 13-year-old, whose identity is being withheld by the DAILY STAR, was toying with the firearm, when it accidentally fired, and hit his playmate on the left foot.

The minor suspect was also endorsed by the Talisay police Women and Children Concerned Desk to the DSWD.

Martir also reported the recovery of 21 water meters and scrap iron at Mabini-Bonifacio streets in Talisay City, also allegedly stolen by minors.

Each water meter is valued at P2,500.

The stolen water meters were also turned over by the police to the Talisay City Water District.

The police also confiscated bladed weapons from 28 persons during a week-long celebration of the Ati-Atihan Festival in Cadiz City, which started Jan. 22 and ended yesterday..*

Woman hit with
whisky bottle

A woman was injured when an unidentified man hit her with an empty whiskey bottle at Purok 5, Pta. Magsungay, Brgy. Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City, yesterday noon.

Jocelle dela Cruz, 36, married, of Purok 6, Pta. Magsungay, in the barangay was rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital with head injuries.

Dela Cruz, told the DAILY STAR, yesterday she was attending the christening of her brother-in-law and was talking to a friend when the suspect hit her on the back of her head without any reason. She said she took a thermos bottle and splashed its content at the suspect.

She said the suspect also boxed her on the head, and a commotion resulted.

Meanwhile, Leah Ventura Gensoli, 33, married, of Purok Magnolia, Brgy. 7, Bacolod City reported to Police Station 1 that Ramil Arto Catalan, 23, mauled her at Araneta Street, in the city, at about 7 p.m. Friday.

Gensoli told the police Catalan boxed and kicked her in her waist causing her pain and embarrassment, police reports said.*DMG
