shooting incidents

Three Dumaguete City residents, two of them teenagers, suffered injuries in two shooting incidents in the city last week.

Sherwin Hayo, 31, married, of Barangay Pob. 6, and Kenny Anfone, 17, a nursing student at Silliman University, sustained gunshot wounds allegedly inflicted by two motorcycle-riding men in Barangay Pob.7, Dumaguete City Wednesday, the police said.

Hayo was hit in the stomach, while he was playing internet games at the Extreme Gaming Internet Cafe.

award for research

Silliman University in Dumaguete City was adjudged winner of the Best Higher Education Institutions Research Program in the country award by the Commission on Higher Education and received P1 million at rites held at the Philippine International Convention Center, Manila, Thursday.

The Silliman entry was, "The Marine Laboratory Program on Marine Protected Areas", that details the efforts of the SU Marine Laboratory, now Institute of Environment and Marine Sciences, at fishery enhancement and biodiversity conservation in the Visayas and Mindanao. Silliman president Dr. Ben Malayang III said the award is a result of consistent, quality research being undertaken by Silliman University.

Marathon clinics set

The Metro Dumaguete Roadrunners Club Inc. will conduct a year-long marathon clinic in Dumaguete City, to draw more participation from residents.

An inaugural run was held yesterday at the Rizal Boulevard to kick-off the launching of the program, Dumaguete Marathon Clinic 2007, for a series of monthly progression runs this year.

The program theme is "T.H.E.Y.- Challenge for Peace," which stands for Tourism, Health, Environmental preservation, Youth development and Peace.
