'Bacolod should eye
more BPO services'

Bacolod City needs to promote itself as a site for outsourced back-office operations, Bacolod Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, chairperson of the Bacolod Information Technology Focus Team, said.

She also said that, aside from hosting call centers, she is also eyeing that the city will have locators for back-office operations like accounting, software development, engineering, architectural design, medical, legal and data transcription, computer graphics, animation, game development and design.

Batapa said during the e-Services Philippines global sourcing conference and exhibition next month, the IT Focus Team is expected to find more opportunities as officials of foreign companies will look for ICT sites during the event.

TransCo bidders assured
of stable regulation: ERC

The Energy Regulatory Commission has assured the three investor groups bidding for the 25-year concession of the National Transmission Corp. of transparency and stability in the regulatory framework of TransCo's business operations.

A press statement from TransCo said that ERC Commissioner Rauf Tan eased fears of regulatory risk in the privatization of TransCo during a forum organized by the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp., the government agency tasked to privatize TransCo.

Tan said that ERC has a transparent and stable regulatory regime, and there will be no arbitrary changes in the rules.

Arroyo backs Teletech
expansion in NegOr

Malacaņang said in a press statement yesterday that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo recommended to the top official of Teletech that they expand their operations in Oriental Negros.

Arroyo met with Teletech chairman and chief executive officer, Kenneth Tucman, during her visit to Davos, Switzerland to attend the World Economic Forum, the press release said. Tucman himself expressed a desire to expand his company's operations in the Philippine provinces, Malacaņang said.

It added that President Arroyo recommended Valencia town near Dumaguete City for Teletech's expansion plans to take advantage of the power subsidy given by the local government (in the area).
