The Commission on Elections recently issued the guidelines for
mass media in connection with the May 14 synchronized national and
local elections.
Bacolod Comelec registrar Mavil Majarucon yesterday requested
all media practitioners in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental to
file their applications for accreditation as early as possible since
the date of filing is from Feb. 1 to Mar. 31. Comelec Resolution
7803 states that the period shall be non-extendible and applications
filed after the last day for filing shall not be entertained.
Majarucon said the local media can file their applications
for accreditation with the Office of the Provincial Election Supervisor
or file them online.
Application forms may be downloaded from the Comelec website
(http://www.comelec.gov.ph) and Comelec-Education and Information
Department website (http://www.bagongbotante.com).
Majarucon said that since the media card will be issued in
Manila she is calling the attention of all media practitioners to
file their application for accreditation as early as possible to
avoid problems later in case the media cards don't arrive in time
for the election. Without the media cards, they cannot cover the
elections, she said.
Meanwhile, the Comelec Office in Bacolod has designated common
poster areas in Bacolod City for candidates in the May 14 elections.
These areas are located in front of Pepsi at Lacson Street in
Brgy. Bata, in front of Robinson's Place at Lacson Street, in front
of the Bacolod Airport terminal at Araneta Street, in front of Manokan
Country at the Reclamation Area, in front of Lopues East at the
circumferential road, in front of Burgos Cemetery at Burgos Street,
in front of Ceres Terminal - Shopping area, Mansilingan rotunda,
vacant space opposite Bac-up 7 at Libertad Extension and the bridge
going to the Banago port area at the circumferential road.*CGS
