Bacoleņo shot self, cops say

30-year-old man allegedly shot himself dead in Purok Paghidaet, Brgy. Alijis, Bacolod City, at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday because he was not invited to the Christening of his son.

The body of Joebert Maming Java was found by his relatives in his room in the barangay. Java succumbed to a gunshot wound on the left side of his head, case investigator PO2 Lyndon Ortoņo of Police Station 7 told the DAILY STAR yesterday.

Ortoņo said the police recovered a .38 caliber homemade revolver withtwo bullets and a suicide note intended for Java's family.

In the note, Java asked for forgiveness from God and his family for committing suicide, Ortoņo said. He added that the victim shot himself because he could not accept that his live-in partner held the Christening of their 6-month-old son without his knowledge.

Java also asked his family not to bury him unless his son is in their custody, Ortoņo said.

Java also requested that his favorite song, "Imagine" by John Lennon of the Beattles be played during his wake, Ortoņo said.

He also said he could not determine if there was foul play because Java's family would not allow the conduct of paraffin test on the victim and cotton swabbing on the gun used.*DMG
