Val Motors posts 2nd win

Val Motors shrugged off a sluggish start to post a resounding 118-73 victory Thursday night for its second consecutive win in the 7th Tan Kek Pin Memorial Basketball Tournament at the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

After a slow start, only managing to create a slim 24-23 lead at the end of the opening period, Val Motors turned its game up a notch by outscoring Rentas in the next two quarters, 71-27, using its balanced offensive attack. Eight players scored 6 points or more for Val Motors during the deciding run as Sammy Belangel proving to be the most potent weapon, pouring in all of his 16 points in the stretch, while Hernie Tamayo and Cesar Ordas contributed 10 and 8 markers, respectively.

Also coming up big for Val Motors, which took the early lead in bracket A with a 2-0 slate, was Godoy Cepriano with 15 points. Nestor Moiten and Santiago Rapiz chipped in 8 points each, while Julius Dacles and RichardAguilar added 7 markers apiece.

Meanwhile, Bad Boyz counted on a second half explosion to barge into the win column after trouncing Autoworld SKT, 96-84, during their bracket D encounter.

Bad Boyz, which improved to 1-1 after absorbing a 74-76 setback at the hands of defending champion BBC in the opening game, outscored Autoworld, 54-40, in the final half for the victory.

Autoworld created a 44-42 advantage at halftime behind the 15-point performance of Jeff Wee, but Erson Isuga and Vincent Javelosa combined for 16 markers to keep Bad Boyz within striking distance.

Bad Boyz employed its run-and-gun offense in the third quarter to pull away from Autoworld, 70-60, as Joebert Lomotan poured in 10 points, before David Lacson and Isuga combined for 11 markers in the payoff period to keep Autoworld at bay.

Isuga finished with 14 points to spearhead Bay Boyz, while Jake Catanghal canned 12 markers. Javelosa and Lacson had 9 points apiece.

Autoworld, which dropped to 0-2, was led by Wee with 17 points as Mars Echarri shot 15 markers. Stephen Barneso and Bingbing Echarri added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Pacing Rentas, which remained winless in two games, in a losing effort was Marlon Dayuday with 25 points, while Blair Bracamonte had 10 markers. Mark Macapal and Jojo San Miguel chipped in 7 and 6 points, respectively. *CIT
