Countryside development
gets boost with blessing of bridge

Governors Joseph Maraņon and George Arnaiz of Occidental and Oriental Negros Thursday led local officials in the inauguration and blessing of the P5.5 million Overflor Bridge built under the Negros Island Development Program, in Brgy. Carol-an, Kabankalan City, a press release from the Negros Occidental Capitol said.

"This is a clear manifestation of our priority agenda to promote the development of the countryside," Maraņon said, referring to the financial sharing among the local governments in the completion of the project.

Each province shelled out P2 million, P1 million came from the Kabankalan government, and P500,000 from the municipal government of Ayungon.

The bridge serves Upper Carol-an of the municipality of Ayungon in Oriental Negros and Lower Carol-an of Kabankalan City.

Maraņon said that although the "One-Island Region" proposal did not prosper, he was very glad and thankful for the support of Arnaiz so that the two Negros provinces can continue to work together to bring progress for the people in the countryside, the press release said.

Maraņon disclosed that more roads connecting the two provinces will be paved, like the Isabela and Guihulngan road improvements, Binalbagan and La Libertad, and Himamaylan and Tayasan roads.

Also blessed and inaugurated was the Carol-an Livestock "Oksyon" Market which is also under the Negros Island Development Program.

Present at the activities were Vice Gov. Isidro Zayco, 6th District Board Members Adolfo Mangao Sr. and Macario Zafra, Kabankalan Mayor Pedro Zayco, and Ayungon Mayor Edcel Enardecido, and other local and barangay officials, the press release added.*
