SAN CARLOS SHOOTING
Police release minor,
pa for lack of charges

A man and his minor son arrested for the recent death of a 10-year-old in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, were released from jail Wednesday, after the victim's mother executed an affidavit of desistance in pursuing charges against them.

Police chief Ricardo de la Paz said the 9-year-old son of Rufino Compas whose identity is being withheld by the DAILY STAR, was tagged as a suspect in the shooting to death of Jonouelt Pasaylo, 10, at Purok Calumpang, Brgy. 1 poblacion in San Carlos City, on Jan. 24.

Police investigations show that the minor took the .38 caliber revolver of his father and fired it, hitting Pasaylo who was playing with him, in the head.

De la Paz said Pasaylo died on the spot.

The revolver with five live ammunition and one empty shell owned by the elder Compas which was used in the shooting of Pasaylo, is now in the custody of the San Carlos police.

Meanwhile, business rivalry is being eyed by the police as the motive for the fatal shooting of Concepcion Lirio and for the injury of Jason Ybañez at Centermall in Brgy. Palampas, San Carlos City, on Jan. 24.

Lirio, owner of the SCC Drug Testing Center, and her employee, Ybanez, were shot allegedly by Teodoro Pardillo, an employee of Espiditus Drug Testing Center, police investigations showed. Lirio who was hit in the head, died, while she was being treated at the San Carlos District Hospital. Ybañez, survived, although he had been hit in the neck, the police said.

Pardillo had already escaped when the police responded. But they recovered two spent shells of a .38 caliber revolver at the crime scene. Murder and frustrated murder charges are now being readied by the police for filing against Pardilla who was still at large up to yesterday.*GPB
