Jewel campaigns for hubby
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

Former Binibining Pilipinas - Universe Jewel May Lobaton Pimentel yesterday said that her husband, Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III, is running for senator under the United Opposition.

Jewel May said she met with friends in Bacolod City to ask for their support . She said that in two recent surveys, Pimentel ranked between seven and nine.

She said she can be of service to other people, especially to her fellow Negrenses, if her husband is in office.

Jewel May said her husband believes in the rule of law because by believing in the rule of law we can resolve poverty. If our justice system is effective in the implementation of the law, cases will be resolved fast, she said. This will also provide a conducive environment to our investors, she added.

Jewel May said Pimentel believes that there should be equality between the rich and the poor and that both male and female should be entitled to the same benefits. Pimentel also wants to empower the youth, being once a National Youth Commissioner in Mindanao, she said.

Jewel May said Pimentel also believes that everyone should have equal access to affordable quality education. Our standard of education has declined because it is not given priority by the government, she said. "If we are all educated, we can fight poverty because we will become innovative, creative, self reliant and can enter into any job," she added.

Jewel May said Pimentel believes in the power of the local autonomy and wants to turn the barangay into economic centers so it can provide jobs in the barangay level. He also wants a Gawad Kalinga leadership of governance, she said.

Pimentel believes in accountability, the fear of God and in the value system, Jewel May said. He believes that problems like graft and corruption, which is one cause of poverty, can be lessened if we have the right moral values, she added.*CGS
