Loptta wins national title

The Lopue's Table Tennis Association posted a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Andro Team-A to bring home the crown in the 3rd Flexible Cup National Table Tennis Championships over the weekend at the Far Eastern University Gym in Manila.

Andro drew first blood as Lauro Crisostomo, the Philippines' former top paddler, scored a 3-0 demolition of Isaias Seronio, before Mark Jimenez leveled the match at 1-1 for LOPTTA. Down 0-2 and trailing 3-8 in the third game, Jimenez refused to wilt in the face of Andro standout Johan Remaneses, storming back to rack up three straight games for a 3-2 triumph.

Andro bounced back to keep the lead at 2-1 as Ayra Malabayabas blanked former RP ladies standout Marell Lagunday, 3-0, before LOPTTA won to consecutive matches to steal the championship.

Johnard Baldonaao, chief administrative officer of the Bacolod Christian Center, started LOPTTA's rally by disposing former national pool member Jeje Marcilino, 3-1.

LOPTTA mainstay Arnie Uy completed the comeback by registering a 3-1 win over former RP standout Kirby Colis and hand the crown to the Bacolod City-based squad.

The LOPTTA paddlers, headed by its president Dr. Leonito "Diotay" Lopue, turned back the Philippine National Police Table Tennis Club, 3-1, to barge into the championship showdown.

Baldonado edged Henberd Ortalla, 3-2, to give LOPTTA the early lead in the semifinals, before PNP bet Celjun Ortalla posted an impressive 3-0 victory over Seronio to tie the score at 1-1.

Lagunday smashed Cassandra Bazar, 3-0, before Jimenez clobbered Rodel Valle, 3-1, to give LOPTTA a finals berth.

The Flexible paddlers settled for second runner-up, while the PNP Table Tennis Club came in third runner-up.*
