Gamban delivers report

Mayor Carlo Gamban called anew for unity and cooperation to realize the vision of his administration for a God-fearing, united, peaceful and progressive city of Silay in Negros Occidental, a press release from the city said. The call was aired by Gamban in his year-end report, of detailing his administration's accomplishments since he assumed office in 2001, held at the flag ceremony at the Natalio Velez Sports and Cultural Center, Monday.

Gamban presented what had happened in the field of education, electrification, infrastructure, health, water, livelihood, peace and order, since 2001, the press release said.

Gamban's report was followed by Vice Mayor Jay Jalandoni's presentation of resolutions approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod, in support of the mayor's program.

Some department heads also rendered their respective reports, the press release added.*

Application for
LET, PNLE exams on

The Professional Regulation Commission-Western Visayas will administer the Licensure Examination for Teachers on Aug. 26 in all venues for the regional offices and other identified testing centers, a PRC press release said.

Qualified applicants may now file their applications. Repeaters are given only until April 30 while new takers have until May 31. Application forms are free and may be filed personally at any filing centers in Manila and various regional offices. Meanwhile, the PRC also announced that the Philippine Nurses Licensure Examination will be conducted June 10, 11 and 12 in the cities of Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legaspi, Lucena, Tacloban, Tuguegarao and Zamboanga, the press release said.

Filing of applications is ongoing. Repeaters are enjoined to file not later than March 15, while the deadline for new takers is on May 11.

17-year-old needs help

The parents of a 17-year-old resident of Purok Sawmill II, Brgy.Bata, Bacolod City, are asking DAILY STAR readers to help them defray the expenses for their daughter diagnosed to have thyroid storm at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.

Filomeno Flores, 68, and wife Erlinda, 56, said their daughter Anamae, 17, has been confined at the hospital since Jan. 19 for complaints of difficulty in breathing. Filomeno said he is a jobless while Erlinda is an ambulant vendor. The couple have three other children aged 27, 26 and 23.

Medical records disclosed that the patient also suffered swelling of extremities, and is undergoing diagnosis for thyroid storm. Erlinda said they received help from the office of Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentevella.

Any assistance for Anamae may also be given through the DAILY STAR office.*GCT

NONESCOST marks 9th year

The Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology in Sagay City, Negros Occidental, recently celebrated its 9th Founding Anniversary on the theme "NONESCOST @ 9: Going, Growing, Glowing," a Sagay press release said.

College president Dr. Rogelio Artajo and the academe welcomed the guests composed of officials of the Commission on Higher Education, local government and private individuals. CHED Commissioner Saturnino Ocampo commended the effort of the faculty and staff of NONESCOST for promoting quality education made affordable to the underprivileged not only of Sagay, but from the other neighboring cities and municipalities.

The guests who delivered their messages were one in saying that NONESCOST have significantly grown over the years, the press release said.

Donations to the college were also given by Vallacar Transit Inc. through its Executive Vice President Roy Yanson, represented by Jose Cordero, which gave two school buses complete with accessories, insurance and future repairs of the vehicles in its company shop.

The Sagay City government through Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva signed a deed of donation for a 67,014-square meter property intended for the expansion programs of the institution. Also present were Department of Science and Technology Regional 6 Director Zinnia Teruel, also an outgoing Board of Trustee of the College, the press release added.*
