'No foul play in death
of detachment head'
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

No foul play.

This was declared yesterday by Senior Supt. Rosendo Franco, provincial police director, referring to the death of SSgt. Walter Villanueva, Canlandog detachment commander, in Murcia, Negros Occidental.

Franco said Villanueva had no enemies at the Army detachment.

Brig. Gen. Gregorio Fajardo, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, said the death of Villanueva in a military camp was most likely "self-inflicted", although they are still awaiting a final report of the Murcia police.

Police investigations show that Villanueva and his men were conducting a routine camp defense plan training, when he stumbled and accidentally pressed the trigger of his M-16 assault rifle, hitting himself in the neck. The bullet exited from his left eye.

An empty shell of an M-16 assault rifle was recovered from the scene of incident.*GPB
