Lopue's stuns Gard;
Valiant posts 1st win
BY CEDELF P. TUPAS

When all seemed lost, Lopue's Travel Center conjured one big play after another in the final six seconds to stun Gard Shampoo, 87-84, late Monday night in the 7th Tan Kek Pin Cup Memorial Basketball Tournament at the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

Valiant Bank, drawing clutch baskets from ex-San Agustin guard Johnson Salazar, subdued Tangub, 88-76, in the first game.

In an encounter that had all the trappings of a classic, Lopue's erased a four-point lead in a span of three seconds and sealed the win with a buzzer-beating triple by Antonio Rogacion, who nailed the shot from the top of the key after Gard's Robbie Jalando-on had spilled the ball into the sideline in the inbound play.

The technical committee of the Western Visayas Private Schools and Athletics Association will conduct a final inspection of the playing venues of the National PRISAA Games in Iloilo today.

Roger Banzuela, Region VI PRISAA technical committee chairman, yesterday said that they will also make an ocular inspection on the billeting quarters of the school-based meet set in April.

Banzuela, who also serves as the Western Visayas PRISAA athletic manager, said the results of the inspection will be presented next month when they meet with the National PRISAA board of directors.

ICCHS to miss reg'l tilt

The competition in the secondary basketball of the Western Visayas Regional Athletics Association Meet in Bacolod City next month is expected to be wide open with defending champion Iloilo Central Commerical High School skipping the tournament.

ICCHS coach Nelson Go told the DAILY STAR Sunday that his team will miss the weeklong hostilities because the school will celebrate its 95th founding anniversary on the same week.

The regional Palaro, initially scheduled Feb. 11 to 16, has been rescheduled to Feb. 19-24, while ICCHS will have its celebration from Feb. 20-25, Go said.
