More than 200 local chief executives throughout the country, at least ten of them from Oriental Negros, are awaiting the findings of anti-graft cases filed against them before the office of the Ombudsman.

Provincial legal officer Erwin Vergara yesterday disclosed that, those facing graft charges before the Ombudsman are Mayors Rodrigo Alanano of Dauin, Jonifer Villegas - Vallehermoso, Ernesto Reyes - Guihulngan, Rodolfo Yee - Bacong, Hector Villanueva - Bais City, with his Vice Mayor Francisco Villanueva, Mayors Jocelyn Limkaichong of La Libertad, and German Saraņa (Bayawan City), his Vice Mayor Rene Gaudiel, the entire Sanggunian Bayan of Bayawan and councilors, and several other barangay captains in the province.

3-cornered battle in 1st district
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Pre-campaign sorties are heating up among congressional bets in the First Congressional District of Oriental Negros where intense political rivalry is expected in the May 14 polls.

Vying for the position are Olive Paras, wife of Rep. Jing Paras (Neg. Or., 1st district) his brother, former congressman Jerome Paras, and Mayor Jocelyn Limkaichong of La Libertad. Limkaichong said she considers herself the underdog in the three-cornered fight, but believes that the more than 18 years of reign by the Parases is enough, and there should be new breed of leaders to effect a change.

NFA intensifies campaign
on 'Tindahan Natin' outlets

The National Food Authority in Oriental Negros has intensified its campaign of putting up Tindahan Natin outlets.

Gil Ibarra, newly-installed general manager of the NFA, said there are now 160 Tindahan Natin stalls located in different barangays throughout the province.

He added that, based on records, NFA rice consumption in the different outlets is increasing because of the price increase of commercial rice and corn grits in the market.
