Zubiri seeks Negros
help for senate bid

Rep. Miguel Zubiri (Bukidnon, 3rd district) yesterday met with leaders of Negros Occidental to consolidate support for his senatorial bid under the administration party.

Zubiri said he wanted to strengthen his foothold in his second province, Negros Occidental, where his father is originally from.

He said he belongs to the Zayco and Rubin clans and Vice Governor Isidro Zayco and Kabankalan Mayor Pedro Zayco are his uncles. Gov. Joseph Maraņon yesterday said he would support Zubiri because he is from Negros and had worked to help the sugar industry.

Zubiri was the author of the Biofuels Act in the House that the governor has described as a boost to the sugar industry, that will be producing ethanol as a fuel additive.

Zubiri said, so far, there are about 15 applicants before the Board of Investments for ethanol production.

Zubiri said he is not ashamed to be running under the administration ticket because they have had a lot of solid achievements.

He noted that the stock market is enjoying a 10-year high and the peso dollar exchange rate has improved because of sound government policies. Zubiri also said he has also one of the best track records in Congress for the number of bills he authored that have been passed into law.*CPG
