AFTER DUMAGUETE
WITHDRAWS HOSTING JOB

BY CHRISTIAN IRL C. TAN

The Basketball Association of the Philippines is keen on bringing the National Students Tournament to Bacolod City after Negros Oriental withdrew from the task of hosting the hostilities in Dumaguete City in February, a ranking BAP official said yesterday.

Tony Agustin, BAP regional director for Western Visayas, yesterday said that the association's officials from Manila are requesting him to host the national tournament in Bacolod.

"BAP wants the tournament to be staged here (Bacolod), but I'm still ironing out things because I'm also considering the expenses for hosting the event," Agustin told the DAILY STAR.

The Negros Taekwondo Union-Main took eight golds, four silvers and one bronze medals over the weekend to seize the overall title of the Sinulog 2007 Mayor Pedro Zayco Invitational Taekwondo Championship at the Gaisano Mall in Kabankalan City.

Bringing home golds for NTU-Main were Timothy Alcala, Stephanie Lamayo, Anton Adrian Guinanao, Joshua Rosalia, Kathleen Dinsay, Miguel Padilla, Georgina Maghari and Kristine Therese Chua.

The NTU-Main, mentored by Jim-Jim Chua and Andy Perdigueros, also claimed the title in the junior women's division of the tournament that was sponsored by the Kabankalan Sinulog Foundation Inc., Kabankalan City Youth Development Council and the Philippine Taekwondo Association.

Davies nails 1st win

A steady running game enabled Davies Paint-Probac to thump Province of Negros Occidental, 93-68, Sunday night for its first win in the 7th Tan Kek Pin Cup Memorial Basketball Tournament at the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

With the one-sided victory, Davies, one of the pre-tournament picks to go all the way, joins defending champion BBC and other opening-day winner Talisay on top of the 16-team tournament.
