Davies nails 1st win

A steady running game enabled Davies Paint-Probac to thump Province of Negros Occidental, 93-68, Sunday night for its first win in the 7th Tan Kek Pin Cup Memorial Basketball Tournament at the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

With the one-sided victory, Davies, one of the pre-tournament picks to go all the way, joins defending champion BBC and other opening-day winner Talisay on top of the 16-team tournament.

Former St. La Salle standout Peewee Demonteverde presided over Probac's attack, scoring 14 points to help end the Province resistance in the second half. From a 45-37 lead, Davies pulled away as Carlo Diaz waxed hot from three-point range and Mark Sabusap started to impose himself inside the paint.

Demonteverde and Ariston Sillana put the finishing touches in the win, combining for 13 points in the final period.

Valiant and Tangub was playing as of press deadline last night. The next game pits Lopues Travel and Gard.

Four more teams debut today when Val Motors collides with AA Electrical at 6:45 p.m., before Summit battles Autoworld in the second game at the Po Hang Gym. *CPT
