Mayor Anthony Lizares
road unveiled

The Mayor Anthony V. Lizares Road was unveiled yesterday in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, a press release from the city said.

The Dos Hermanas Road was renamed on the proposal of the Federation of Senior Citizens of the Philippines-Talisay Chapter that was endorsed by Talisay Mayor Eric Saratan to the Sangguniang Panlungsod through Vice Mayor Neil Lizares III, the press release said.

The new road is to honor the late Mayor, for his legacy to the city, especially its youth, it also said.

Present at the ceremony were Gov. Joseph Marañon, Board Member Reynaldo Depasucat, former Talisay Mayor Amelo Lizares who received a copy of the city ordinance, Teresita Lizares, Saratan, Vice Mayor Lizares III, Talisay councilors, barangay officials and residents of Talisay.*

SJA alumni to hold
general homecoming

The St. Joseph Academy Alumni Association in E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental will hold its general homecoming called "Kilit-anay sa SJA" 10 a.m. Jan. 27, at the school quadrangle, a press release from the alumni said.

The reunion will be held after the Coronation of Sto. Niño at the open court.

Tribu 3 wins grand
tribal competition

Tribu Tres of Brgy. 3 was the champion in the Grand Tribal Competition of the 31st Sinulog Festival in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental on Sunday, a press release from the city said.

The entry also won Best in Costume, Best in Streetdancing and Best in Choreography.

Second place winner was Tribu Wabrak of Brgy. Camingawan and Tribu 9 of Brgy. 9 was third.

The champion tribe received P50,000 in cash, trophy and P300,000 worth of project; P30,000 and P200,000 worth of project, and P20,000 plus P100,000 worth of project went to the second and third place winners, the press release said.

Barangay Captain of Brgy. 3 Freida Jacildo received the awards for the champion tribe from Mayor Pedro Zayco, Jr. at the closing ceremony. The Kabankalan "Molasses" and "Bangkal" Jaycees spearheaded the competition participated in by 12 tribes. A fireworks display capped the event, the press release said.

IN KABANKALAN
NegOr lass Sinulog Queen '07

A 15-year-old resident of Oriental Negros was crowned as Sinulog Queen 2007 in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, Sunday, a press release from the city said.

Rogelie Catacutan, 15, sponsored by Ayungon town; also won Best in Gown in the contest participated in by 18 candidates and was one of the highlights of the 31st Sinulog Festival of Kabankalan from Jan. 15 to 21.

Aprilyn Gustilo, 16, representing Brgy. Camansi, won the First Princess title and Glory Gene Dy, 19, of Brgy. Carol-an was Second Princess.

Catacutan received a P30,000 cash prize, a trophy, bouquet and sash, gift certificates, round-trip ticket to Manila and an overnight stay in a 5-star hotel. Chosen as "Diwata sang Mag-aso" was Ria Jeannie Gatoc, 15, representing Brgys. 1 and 2.

The prizes and sash were given by Mayor Pedro Zayco with wife Dottie, and 2006 Sinulog Queen Estenelli Ybañez. The pageant that was shown on The Filipino Channel of ABS-CBN was held at the city hall grounds was directed by Rene Hinojales with Mel Yanson of ABS-CBN's "Sabado Barkada" and John Arceo as emcees, the press release added.*
