The National Transmission Corporation turned over recently 30
unserviceable wooden poles to the local government of La Libertad
at the Transco, Tandayag, Amlan, Oriental Negros.
NTC vice president for Visayas and Mindanao Lorrymir Adasa
and La Libertad Mayor Jocelyn Limchaichong attended the formal turnover.
Limchaichong said the wooden poles will be used in the hinterland
barangays of Pitugo and Ilisiya in La Libertad.
She said although the energization program has reached the
hinterland barangays, they needed to set up more electric posts
for the lines to distribute electricity to the residents.
She said they took the offer of the NTC since they do not
have funds to purchase wooden poles estimated to cost P15,000 each.
Adasa said the wooden poles are all from hardwood trees,
of the Apitong and Red Lawa-an species that have a lifespan of 20
years.
Adasa said the NTC is embarking into a wood pole replacement
program, adding that they use wooden poles to replace steel posts
which they observe to be more durable than wood. Adasa clarified
that, aside from bulk power distribution and donating wooden poles,
they are also extending services for social development, like medical
missions, livelihood programs, and seedling dispersals.
Limchaichiong said they have requested the NTC for a hundred wooden
poles but unfortunately only 30 poles were approved. The Province
of Oriental Negros, through Governor George Arnaiz, also requested
for the wooden poles.*MA
