AWOL status mulled vs.
cop facing rape raps

Senior Supt. Ronilo Quebrar, director of the Bacolod City Police Office, yesterday said a Bacolod policeman facing rape charges for the alleged molestation of his wife's niece, may be dropped from the rolls if he does not report to duty.

Charged was SPO1 Mario Villafuerte of the city police Operations Branch.

Judge Philadelfa Agraviador, who issued the arrest warrant of Villafuerte has denied him bail.

Villafuerte failed to report to duty several days before the arrest warrant was issued against him, police reports said.

Quebrar said Villafuerte will be considered absent without leave, although he believes the latter will still return to work.

He was accused of raping the niece of his wife, Senior Inspector Ester Villafuerte also a police officer, who filed the criminal complaint against him. Senior Inspector Villafuerte is assigned at the Internal Affairs Services of the Philippine National Police, that acts on complaints filed against policemen.

Initial police investigations showed that the alleged molestation of the victim started when she was still a minor but it was only discovered by Senior Inspector Villafuerte when her niece reached the legal age.

Meanwhile, a 17-year-old was arrested by the police on Thursday in Brgy. Handumanan, Bacolod City, for allegedly attempting to rape his two cousins, aged 3 and 4.

The suspect who confessed to have been under the influence of intoxicating liquor, had watched an x-rated movie, the day before he allegedly tried to molest his cousins.

Not contented with trying to rape the two girls, he also touched the breast of his 7-year-old cousin, police investigations show.

Police records also said the incident took place two weeks after a 5-year-old boy was also sexually abused by his three playmates - aged 12, 13 and 14 - in Brgy. Guinhalaran, Silay City, Negros Occidental. The crime was blamed by authorities on the proliferation of pornographic materials.

In a radio interview, the 17-year-old suspect asked for forgiveness for what he did, and said he is ready to suffer the consequences.*CGS/GPB.

Brgy. 35 blaze
damage pegged at P150T

A residential house at the 2nd Road of Purok Mainabyanon, Barangay 35, Bacolod City was gobbled up by fire at around 7:15 a.m. yesterday with damages to property pegged at about P150,000.

Arson investigator FO3 Cornelio Silva said the blaze which burned the appliances and clothing among others of owner Asuncion Fernandez was declared under control after eight minutes of fire fighting operation. No casualty was reported.

The cause of the incident has yet to be determined because there were no witnesses, but the fence of the 80-square meter house was destroyed, Silva said.

If someone had broken into the house, we still can not determine the motive, but the point of entry was the fence that was brought down, he added.

Silva said no one is living in the house because Fernandez is residing at the 1st Road with her relatives, but she regularly checks the house in the morning and evening.

Two units of the Chamber Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Bacolod Fire Station also responded to help put the fire out, Silva added.*CIT
