Grenade, revolver seized
in encounter with rebels

Patrolling soldiers of the 61st Infantry Battalion yesterday recovered a rifle grenade and a .38 caliber revolver after an encounter with a group of suspected New People's Army rebels in Brgy, Nagbinlod, Santa Catalina, Negros Oriental.

Lt. Col. Norman Flores, 61st IB commander, said the group of rebels encountered by his men belonged to the Larangan Gerilya 5 and headed by a certain Ka Jimlan.

No one was reported injured in both sides as of yesterday, and soldiers are still pursuing the fleeing rebels, Flores said.

The encounter took place more than a week after 61st IB soldiers also captured Raul Villar, alias Ka Drilon, leader of LG 5 platoon 1, and his security escort in Siaton, Negros Oriental. Two M16 assault rifles were recovered from Villar who has an P800,000 bounty for his capture, and his escort identified as Fernando Mahilum, alias Ka Jong Jong.*GPB
