A Philippine army trooper was arrested by the police for allegedly
carrying two hand grenades at a mall in Bacolod City at about 11:45
a.m. yesterday.
Staff Sgt. Edwin Demontaņo, 46, a member of Army's 542ND Engineering
Construction Battalion was arrested after he allegedly endorsed
two hand grenades to Security guard Daniel Sarosa of FSD Security
Agency at the Robinson's Place Bacolod in Brgy. Mandalagan, police
reports said.
Case investigator PO1 Donie Garcia yesterday told the DAILY
STAR, they invited Demontaņo to Police Station 3 for further investigation.
Garcia said Demontaņo told him he was on his way to duty
at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Brgy. Mansilingan, when his wife
asked him to accompany her to the mall. He said Demontaņo endorsed
the hand grenades to Sarosa before entering the mall.
Demontaņo is now detained in the lock-up cell of Police Station
3, he added
. Acting Bacolod City police director Senior Supt. Ronilo
Quebrar yesterday said he has instructed Senior Insp. Leonardo Borromeo,
Station 3 commander to coordinate with the Commission on Election
on the charges to be filed against Demontaņo.
Quebrar said they started implementing the COMELEC gun ban Sunday
and nobody is exempted from the law. He reiterated his warning that
nobody is allowed to bring firearms outside their residence without
authority from the COMELEC.*DMG
