A Philippine army trooper was arrested by the police for allegedly carrying two hand grenades at a mall in Bacolod City at about 11:45 a.m. yesterday.

Staff Sgt. Edwin Demontaņo, 46, a member of Army's 542ND Engineering Construction Battalion was arrested after he allegedly endorsed two hand grenades to Security guard Daniel Sarosa of FSD Security Agency at the Robinson's Place Bacolod in Brgy. Mandalagan, police reports said.

Case investigator PO1 Donie Garcia yesterday told the DAILY STAR, they invited Demontaņo to Police Station 3 for further investigation.

Garcia said Demontaņo told him he was on his way to duty at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Brgy. Mansilingan, when his wife asked him to accompany her to the mall. He said Demontaņo endorsed the hand grenades to Sarosa before entering the mall.

Demontaņo is now detained in the lock-up cell of Police Station 3, he added

. Acting Bacolod City police director Senior Supt. Ronilo Quebrar yesterday said he has instructed Senior Insp. Leonardo Borromeo, Station 3 commander to coordinate with the Commission on Election on the charges to be filed against Demontaņo.
