La Salle, Tay Tung
cagers take crowns

Defending champions University of St. La Salle and Bacolod Tay Tung High School shared the limelight over the weekend by retaining their titles in the NOPSSCEA basketball tournament at the USLS-Integrated School Covered Court in Bacolod City.

The Troy Sarabia-mentored USLS dribblers, who never absorbed a loss in the hostilities, kept their championship after drubbing the University of Negros Occidental-Reocletos Talisay, 91-54, in the title showdown of the aspirants' division. Kib Montalbo exploded for 28 points to spearhead BTTHS, coached by Gerome Alderon, in posting a resounding 67-43 victory over St. John's Institute in the 10-Under finals.

Tay Tung earned the first championship slot by sweeping its opponent in the eliminations, while the SJI cagers trounced the Baby Stingers of coach Eugene Opu-an, 66-53, for the other finals berth.

In the aspirants' category, the La Sallians gained the first finals slot, while the UNO-R Talisay stalwarts registered triumphs over St. Benilde School, 64-51, and Mansilingan Christian Academy, 78-64, to barge into the title duel.

Cagers from the MCA placed second runner-up as SBS finished third runner-up in the aspirants' competitions, while USLS and Trinity Christian School ended up as the second and third runners-up, respectively, in the 10-Under division. *CIT
