Illegal drugs
campaign intensified

The Task Force 24 vowed to intensify its campaign in apprehending drug personalities in Dumaguete City and Oriental Negros.

Philippine Drug and Enforcement Agency Dumaguete chief Manuel Sanchez said they will continue to monitor areas believed to be lairs of illegal drug dealers and users, especially in barangays Looc Canday-ong, Poblacion 2, and Calindagan, in Dumaguete. He said many drug personalities are still trading in Barangay Looc and they need the cooperation of the community to corner these suspects.

At present, Barangay Looc is still considered the source of shabu in the city and province, Sanchez added.

The PDA had asked for assistance from barangay officials to help them in monitoring minors being used by syndicates as errand boys to sell drugs. The law exempts minors from criminal prosecution.

Meanwhile, a 35-year-old drug suspect was apprehended by TF24 during a raid in Brgy. Looc recently.

The suspect, identified as Ramil Aranas, married, residing in Brgy. Looc, was caught with two sachets allegedly containing shabu in his possession.

He tried to escape by jumping into the sea but police operatives caught him in the water.

Aranas admitted he owned the shabu and was selling it. He refused to identify his supplier. Aranas was detained at the city police detention cell pending the filing of illegal possession of prohibited drug charges under Section 5, Article II of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.*MA/RG
