723 from Neg. Occ.
pass nursing exam

A total of 723 examinees from five nursing schools in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental passed the Nurse Licensure Examination given last December 2 and 3 by the Board of Nursing of the Professional Regulation Commission.

Only 19,712 out of the 40,147 examinees, or about 49 percent, passed the examination held last month in the cities of Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Iloilo, Legazpi, Lucena, Tacloban, Tuguegarao, and Zamboanga.

The topnotcher, Jayben Matamis, who garnered a rating of 88.60 percent, is from the Unciano Colleges and Medical Center in Antipolo, Rizal.

No one among the top ten placers this year came from Bacolod City and Negros Occidental.

University of St. La Salle has 84 passers, with an overall passing rate of 67 percent; Central Philippine Adventist College, 10 passers, 59 percent; Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod, 157 passers, 58 percent; West Negros College, 178 passers, 42 percent; and Riverside College, 294 passers, 38 percent.

Except for CPAC, the results of four other schools included those who retook the exam in December after the leakage controversy cast doubts on their June exam results.

PRC Regional Director Lily Ann Baldago said yesterday that starting this year, results of all licensure exams will now include the number of first timers, repeaters and retakers of each school as requested by the school administrators themselves.

The data will used as a reference for the accreditation of schools, she said.

For the December nurses' examination, the USLS passers include 13 first timers, 68 repeaters, and three retakers; CPAC, one first timer and nine repeaters; CSA-B, 116 first timers; 32 repeaters; and nine retakers;

Riverside College, 147 first timers; 137 repeaters; and 10 retakers; and WNC, 164 first timers, 13 repeaters; and one retaker.

PRC said yesterday that the BON decided to nullify the results of those who failed from Bicol region in cognizance of the impact of the calamity situation in their area during the examination period.

They will be allowed to take the June examination.

The BON is composed of Carmencita Abaquin, chairman; and members Leonila Faire, Betty Merritt, Perla Po, and Marco Antonio Sto. Tomas.*NLG
