The College of Arts and Sciences regained lost glory when it brought
home the cheering title yesterday at the start of the 2007 University
of St. La Salle Sportsfest at the jampacked USLS Coliseum in Bacolod
City.
The Artians, who have bowed to the College of Education for
the past three years, made sure that the championship will not get
away from their hands this time around with unique stunts and crisp
moves that earned the nod of the big crowd. CAS, which won its fourth
cheering title in seven years, automatically gained the front seat
in the overall championship race by collecting 60 points for winning
the cheering competition of the weeklong hostilities.
Rodney Ascalon, the Artians cheerdance squad trainer-choreographer,
said that they deserve the victory because they really worked hard
for it with months of training.
The squad is dedicating the successful performance to the
Lord, to the college and ourselves, Ascalon, who has led the Artians
to three straight cheering titles before yesterday's triumph, said.
The Education dancers, who completed a grandslam last year
settled for first runner-up, while the College of Business and Accountancy
ended up as the second runner-up.
The College of Engineering, which also took the Best in Drumdance
award, came in third runner-up, while the College of Nursing dancers
placed fourth runner-up.
Aside from cheering, 14 more disciplines have been lined
up in the annual meet including basketball, volleyball, chess, bowling,
lawn tennis, dancesports, billiards, handball, cheerdance and football
among others.
The CBA athletes are eyeing for their fourth straight overall
crown in the inter-collegiate event. *CIT
