Barangay 2 posted a 77-74 victory against Bata on Saturday to
snare the crown in the Mayor's Cup 21-Under Inter-Barangay Basketball
Tournament at the Bacolod Arts, Youth and Sports Center.
Banking on its balanced offensive attack, the Brgy. 2 cagers
battled their way back from a 27-32 deficit entering the third quarter
to bring home the championship.
Bryan Toreno, who was named as the tournament's Most Valuable
Player, continued his steady performance with 16 points, but it
was Dave Martinez who spearheaded the offensive attack of Brgy.
2 after exploding for 21 points.
Manuel Lara contributed 13 points for Brgy. 2, while Romeo
Canlas, a member of the mythical team together with Toreno, also
came up big for the successful championship bid with 12 markers.
Pacing Bata in a losing effort was Kenneth Decolongon after
erupting for 21 points, while mythical five member Joemel Paderog
also had a solid performance with 14 markers.
Backstopping the Bata leading scorers was Quickie Pastrana
with 10 points, while Luigi Ohoylan and Thrd Noscal chipped in 9
and 8 points, respectively. The Brgy. 2 stalwarts was the first
team to earn a championship berth, while Bata pulled off a tight
77-73 triumph against Brgy. 34 to barge into the title showdown.
Joining Toreno, Canlas and Paderog in the mythical squad were
Lord Dave Rubite of Brgy. 34 and Estefania standout Melvin Jimenez.
The tournament was organized by the Office of the Youth and Sports
Development and the Bacolod City local government, headed by Mayor
