for Mayor's Cup victory

Barangay 2 posted a 77-74 victory against Bata on Saturday to snare the crown in the Mayor's Cup 21-Under Inter-Barangay Basketball Tournament at the Bacolod Arts, Youth and Sports Center.

Banking on its balanced offensive attack, the Brgy. 2 cagers battled their way back from a 27-32 deficit entering the third quarter to bring home the championship.

Bryan Toreno, who was named as the tournament's Most Valuable Player, continued his steady performance with 16 points, but it was Dave Martinez who spearheaded the offensive attack of Brgy. 2 after exploding for 21 points.

Manuel Lara contributed 13 points for Brgy. 2, while Romeo Canlas, a member of the mythical team together with Toreno, also came up big for the successful championship bid with 12 markers.

Pacing Bata in a losing effort was Kenneth Decolongon after erupting for 21 points, while mythical five member Joemel Paderog also had a solid performance with 14 markers.

Backstopping the Bata leading scorers was Quickie Pastrana with 10 points, while Luigi Ohoylan and Thrd Noscal chipped in 9 and 8 points, respectively. The Brgy. 2 stalwarts was the first team to earn a championship berth, while Bata pulled off a tight 77-73 triumph against Brgy. 34 to barge into the title showdown.

Joining Toreno, Canlas and Paderog in the mythical squad were Lord Dave Rubite of Brgy. 34 and Estefania standout Melvin Jimenez. The tournament was organized by the Office of the Youth and Sports Development and the Bacolod City local government, headed by Mayor Evelio Leonardia. *CIT
