Pagunsan misses
cut in PGA tilt

Bacolold City-born Juvic Pagunsan rallied to a round of 72 Saturday, but proved to be not enough, two days into the $5.1 million Sony Open at the Waialee Country Club in Hawaii.

After booking a 75 in the opening round Friday, the 28-year-old Pagunsan finished with a total of 147 that is seven shots off the cut in his maiden stint in a US PGA Tour event. Pagunsan, a former caddy at the Bacolod Golf and Country Club in Binitin, Murcia, struggled right from the onset of the tournament with six bogeys starting at the back nine.

The Bacoleņo shotmaker earned the right to play in the hostilities upon the invitation of the sponsor after emerging as the 2006 Asian Tour Rookie of the Year. Pagusan, the two-time Southeast Asian Games champion, is now setting his sights on the Commercialbank Qatar Master from Jan. 25-28 in Doha. *CIT
