Cops nab woman
for alleged bribery
A 39-year-old woman was arrested Friday for allegedly
bribing a Bacolod police officer in front of a food chain at Gatuslao
Street, Bacolod City.
PO2 Richard Delasa, a City Mobile Group operative
arrested Leah Divino Cusca, married, of Galo-Smith streets, Brgy.
21, Bacolod City when she handed to him P1,400 allegedly for the
release of Regie Estilo Turvela, police reports said. Turvela, of
Brgy. Singcang-Airport, was arrested by Delasa and his companions
at Gatuslao Street at about 8:30 p.m. Friday, for violation of Presidential
Decree 1602, or illegal gambling, police reports said.
Recovered from Turvela were six tally sheets of
mini-lotto, also known as "lotting", P240 bet money and a motorcycle
with Plate Number 060408, reports also said.
Delasa reported to Police Station 1 that when
Tusca contacted him and asked him to release Turvela, the police
officer conducted an entrapment operation, police reports said.
Turvela and Tusca are now in the custody of Police

Slight
decrease
in crimes noted
There was a slight decrease in index and non-index
crimes in Bacolod City in 2006, compared to 2005, a press release
from the Bacolod City Hall yesterday said.
The Bacolod City Police Office recorded 514 total
crime volume from January to December 31, 2006, compared to 517
in 2005. The Average Monthly Crime Rtae registered at 9.18 percent
per 100,000 inhabitants while crime solution efficieny was placed
at 95 percent, the press release said.
Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia said the
city has had a relatively peaceful environment in the past year
and there were no reports of high profile crimes and terrorist incidents.
Leonardia said this was evident in the smooth conduct
of the world-renowned 27th MassKara Festival and the ASEAN Football
Federation Cup qualifying stages held in Bacolod in October and
November 2006, respectively. "A peaceful city means a progressive
city. Our peaceful environment attracts investors to venture in
business here", Leonardia said.*

renewal ends Jan. 20
The Bacolod Traffic Authority Office is reminding
all tricycle, public utility jeepney and taxi operators to renew
their City Stickers on or before January 20, a City Hall press release
said.
Late registration will be fined with 25 percent
surcharge of all regulatory fees and an additional 2 percent penalty
for every month thereof, Traffic Operations Officer Edgardo Agtoto,
said. Forms are available at the Permits and License Division, 2nd
floor, Bacolod City Hall.
Applicants must secure Barangay Clearance
from their respective barangays and certification of membership
from their respective tricycle associations. PUJ's with diesel engines
must secure smoke-emission certification from ENRO before undergoing
body and road worthiness inspection at BTAO and Traffic Management
Unit, the press release said.
All franchise, expiring this month must present owner's
copy of petition for renewal with corresponding official receipt
from Land Transportation Franchise and Regulatory Board Reg. VI.*
