USLS, UNO-R Talisay
cagers vie for crown

Cagers from the University of St. La Salle and University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos Talisay will test each other's mettle for the crown in the aspirants division of the NOPSSCEA basketball tournament at 10 a.m. today at the USLS-Integrated School Covered Court in Bacolod City.

The defending champion La Salle squad, mentored by Troy Sarabia, barged into the finals after sweeping its assignments in the eliminations as the UNO-R Talisay dribblers trounced two opponents last weekend to earn the second championship berth.

UNO-R Talisay registered an impressive 64-51 victory over the St. Benilde School stalwarts, before turning back Mansilingan Christian Academy, 78-64, to reach the title showdown.

In the 10-Under competitions, reigning titlist Bacolod Tay Tung High School, coached by Gerome Aledron, hopes to retain its crown against St. John's Institute at 8:30 a.m.

The SJI cagers scored a convincing 66-53 victory over the Baby Stingers of coach Eugene Opu-an to gain the second finals slot of the 10-Under tournament. USLS clipped Trinity Christian School, 45-38, to earn the right to play SJI for the other finals spot. *CIT
