Arnaiz denies death threats

Governor George Arnaiz has bellied reports that he received death threats from the Communist Party of the Philippines-New Peoples' Army after announcing that he is running for Congress in the May 2007 polls.

He said that he has been roaming around the most critical areas in the hinterland barangays of Oriental Negros to oversee government's projects and does not believe in death threats from the NPA anymore. He said this issue normally floats during election year, perhaps to take advantage of the situation to collect money from budding politicians.

On the contrary, Arnaiz said he received proposals, allegedly from NPA groups, offering to help him campaign during election, but for a fee. He challenged these kind of people to be fair and square and not to extort money from politicians.* MA
