A town mayor has requested that local officials be informed of
any project implemented by the provincial government in their localities,
so they can monitor them as they could create problems for them
if the projects are left unfinished.
Guihulngan Mayor Ernesto Reyes said that the provincial government
has constructed a barangay hall in Barangay Poblacion in his municipality,
but the project has not been completed yet and he is the one being
bombarded with questions by barangay officials.
He said more than P200,000, has been allocated for the project,
but only the foundation and the roofing of the hall have been put
up.
Governor George Arnaiz said he will have the case looked into.
But Provincial Engineer Susano Ruperto was surprised at Reyes'
claim, saying his office submits monthly report to all cities and
municipalities regarding projects implemented by the provincial
government in different local government units in the province,
especially those funded by the 20 percent Economic Development Fund
of the Internal Revenue Allotment.
However, Ruperto said, that sometimes the chief executives
were not around during the visits of the engineers.
Ruperto said the project mentioned by Reyes is not yet completed
because the total budget for it is P400,000. He assured that it
will be continued as soon as the money is available.
He said he does not want to implement any project without complete
funding available, but because of requests from local officials,
sometimes, the projects have to be implemented, by phases.*RA
