Ferrer going for Congress
if Gretchen does not run
BY CARLA GOMEZ

La Carlota Mayor Jeffrey Ferrer yesterday said he will run for congressman of the fourth district of Negros Occidental if Gretchen Cojuangco, wife of Nationalist People's Coalition founder Eduardo Cojuangco, decides not to run.

However, if Mrs. Cojuangco decides to push through with her bid for Congress, Ferrer said he and his family will support her. "For now it appears Mrs. Cojuangco is determined to run for congress so I will seek reelection as mayor of La Carlota," he said.

Board Member Ike Barredo is also hoping to run for congressman of the fourth district but said the matter still has to be discussed within the NPC-United Negros Alliance.

Negros Occidental Gov. Joseph Maraņon as highest official of the NPC in the province said he has been designated to start the dialogs for the final selection of candidates for the NPC.

On Wednesday afternoon Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia and Vice Mayor Renecito Novero met with Maraņon. Novero has announced his plan to run for congressman of Bacolod.

If Novero affiliates with the NPC he could be the candidate of the party, Maraņon said. He also said that the NPC will field a candidate for congressman for Bacolod.*CPG
