Airport security heightened
after Mindanao bombings

BY DONALYN GUERRERO

The Bacolod Aviation and Security Group is on full alert status in response to the recent spate of bombings in Mindanao Wednesday.

The ASG led by its officer-in-charge SPO2 Abelardo Collado, has been implementing tight security measures particularly in the conduct of inspection of passengers and baggage. He said they are also taking the recent bombings seriously, including false bomb threats.

Any person or persons caught making false bomb threats will be dealt with accordingly, pursuant to Presidential Decree 1727, Law on False Bomb Threats, the ASG said in a document furnished the DAILY STAR yesterday. The ASG is also conducting security patrols, particularly in the vulnerable areas of the airport such as the terminal building (arrival and departure area), cargo area, and fuel depot.

They are coordinating with the intelligence branches of the Bacolod City Police Office and Negros Occidental Police Office.

The ASG had not received a bomb threat and the reported bomb threats did not affect the volume of passengers in the Bacolod airport, the document said.

The ASG is assuring the riding public they will ensure their safety and security while riding airplanes. He said the public should not be scared because they have the equipment and competent security personnel. The unit is also asking the riding public to cooperate with the security personnel and strictly follow airport procedures at all times while they are in the airport or in the aircraft.

Meanwhile, Msgr. Victorino Rivas, vicar general of the Diocese of Bacolod, yesterday told ABS-CBN Bacolod, he is appealing to the persons who have grievances against the government to air them in the proper forum and not by terrorizing people.*DMG
