Bago schools get projectors

Schools Superintendent Mildred Garay recently received 11 multimedia projectors from Bago Mayor Janet Torres, a press release from Bago said.

The projectors that came from the Bago School Board Fund were turned over at the Gen. Juan Araneta Elementary School Library.

Garay said the integration of Information and Communication Technology in education can be a powerful catalyst in improving teaching and learning for the Bagueños, the press release said.*

Masses in honor
of Sto. Niño set

The Parish of St. Francis Xavier, Diocese of Kabankalan, has lined up a series of novena masses in honor of Señor Santo Niño.

The masses with different themes will be held at the city's cathedral and to highlight the week-long 31st Sinulog Festival that will start on Jan. 15, a Kabankalan City Hall press release said. On Jan. 12, the mass with the theme "Hope in the Lord" will start 5 p.m.; Jan. 13 is "Humility and Acceptance", 4:30 p.m.; Jan. 14, "Zeal for God's Glory", 4:30 p.m.; Jan. 15, "Hope in the Lord's Mercy", 5 p.m.; Jan. 16, "Perseverance in Hardship", 5 p.m.; Jan. 17, "Humility When Corrected", 5 p.m.: Jan. 18, "Offering of Hardship", 5 p.m. and Jan. 19, "Service for the Poor", 5 p.m. and Jan. 20, "Perseverance in Trials", 4:30 p.m.

On Jan. 20, a motorcade of Señor Santo Niño from the cathedral to the Hda. Palma Catholic Chapel, Brgy. Andulawan, Ilog, will be held followed by a mass and vigil at Hda. Palma chapel, at 6 p.m.

On Jan. 21, the feast of Señor Sto. Niño, there will be a fluvial parade from Brgy. Talubangi to Lugway in Brgy. 8. "Sugat

450 joining rondalla fest

About 450 delegates from Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Latin America, world's best of the best performers in rondalla music will flock to Dumaguete City to participate in the Second International Rondalla Festival dubbed Cuerdas sa Panaghiusa, or Strings of Unity to boost government's efforts towards unity and reconciliation, not only in the country but around the globe.

Of these delegates, six of these "best of the best", will come from Filipino local and national talents, foremost of which are Silliman University's Kwerdas and La Libertad Children's Rondalla. Provincial Board Member Mariant Escaño Villegas, chairperson of the Provincial Management Committee of Second International Rondalla Festival, said 450 delegates around the world are expected to attend the Rondalla Festival, the press release said.

"Seven of these delegates will come from the Philippines and the rest from Europe, Middle East, Asia and Latin America.," Villegas added. She said the Quartette Phoenix will come from European-Asian continent, the Heart of Russia from the former Soviet Union, and Turna Universitaria Complutense De Madrid from Spain.

From the Asia-Pacific comes the contingent from Rondanihan, Australia National; University of Singapore and Bayanihan Singapore Rondalla, Singapore; Chiang Mai Rajabhat and Mahasarkham Universities of Thailand and the Ryuku Kingdom Traditional Music and Dancing Company and possibly Myanmar.

The other participating rondalla performers from the Middle East include the Three Plucked Strings of Israel and possibly, Iran who still needs to be confirmed by the National Commission on Culture and the Arts.

From Latin America, two famous rondalla ensembles from Mexico are also attending, the La Rondalla Magisterial Procrea and Rondalla del Recuerdo, she disclosed.

Meanwhile, rondalla presenters from the Phillippines include the Celso Espejo Rondalla of Las Piñas City; the Kabataang Silay Performing Arts and Rondalla Ensemble, the Nabua National High School Rondalla; the Zamboanga del Norte National High School Rondalla; the Handurawan Ensemble; and the Philippine National University-Rondalla.

The Cuerdas Sa Panaghiusa-Strings of Unity is the Second International Rondalla Fesitval launched by the NCCA in coordination with the Provincial Government of Oriental Negros, the Musicological Society of the Philippines and the University of the Philippines College of Music.*RG
