Sibulan mulls coalition party

Incumbent officials in connection with the forthcoming May 2007 elections are planning a local coalition in Sibulan town.

The proposition comes from Sibulan Mayor Antonio Renacia who believes politics in the municipality is different from the rest. He is exploring the possibility that all incumbent local officials will run under one ticket regardless of their political affiliations.

The mayor was hoping Sibulanons would understand that infightings will only create divisions and would only jeopardize projects that has taken off, including the market construction.

Some SB members who refused to be identified said they are inclined to the mayor's proposition.

Mayor Renacia, however made it clear, this does not mean, other prospective candidates are prohibited from running to any position in the municipality.

Meanwhile, a multi-million peso public market will soon rise in Sibulan with financial aid from the World Bank.

The first P1 million funding came from PGMA's funds, another P4 million from the Congressional initiative of 2nd Dist. Rep. Emilio Macias II and almost P1 million from local funds.

Once completed, the new market will accommodate the fish, meat, dry goods and vegetable sections on the ground floor.

The 2nd floor will have refreshments and function rooms, says Renacia. He hopes construction of the building will commence in February 2007.*
