Prov'l board okays
junk shop ordinance
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Provincial Board has approved a municipal ordinance in Sibulan for junkshops and scrap yards to comply with additional requirements in conducting business in the town.

Municipal officials said they had observed that the junkyards have contributed to the increase of complaints of theft and robbery in their area. Stolen scrap iron and metals find their way to these establishments, prompting its leaders to look for a solution to an increasing societal problem, reports said.

Under the approved ordinance, operators of junkyards are required to maintain a purchase record that will be subject to inspection by local authorities and stating the date and time of purchase and the name of the seller with corresponding address.

They are also required to have a sales record, observe proper sanitation and to fence their area.

Violations are subject to penalty and can be sufficient grounds for closure.*JG
