MIA PICCIO, Amateur Golf

Although she ended the year in disappointment, Mia Piccio had notable achievements in her first year with the Philippine training pool. The 15-year-old prodigy finished 13th in the World Junior Golf Championships in June in San Diego but gained valuable experience that came in handy when she joined the Junior Amateur Golf Scholars Tour. She topped the Madaline Hooper Memorial Tournament at the California Golf and Country Club, winning by three strokes over American Alex Kim in July 23. Piccio went tantalizingly close to claiming her second straight crown two weeks later when she lost in the playoff of the Toledo Junior Cup.*
