Juvic Pagunsan's decision to turn professional in 2006 proved
to be the right one.
Having won almost every amateur title in the country, the former
caddy from the Bacolod Golf and Country Club in Binitin, Murcia
took the Asian Professional Golf Tour by storm, winning the $24
million-circuit's Rookie of the Year award. A two-time Southeast
Asian Games champion, Pagunsan finished seventh in the Order of
Merit, after earning a total of $291,847 (roughly P14.3 million)
in prize money, highlighted by a runner-up finish in the UBS HongKong
Open.
He has earned an invitation to the Sony Open, an event in the
prestigious PGA Tour set in Hawaii this month.
Pagunsan's explosive year also saw him beat Frankie Minoza, widely
considered as the country's top professional player, to rule the
P1 million The Country Club Tournament.*
