Representing the Asia-Pacific region, Education and Training Center
School of Bacolod City finally got over the hump in the World Series
with its best finish in the tournament by placing first runner-up
in the Junior League Softball event in Kirkland, Washington in August.
Spearheaded by pitcher Veronica Belleza, sisters Annalie and
Nerissa Benjamin, and catcher Cherry Bartolome, ETCS had victories
against US-West, 4-0; US-Central, 1-0, and Latin America, 4-3, in
the eliminations with its only loss coming at the hands of defending
champion US-South, 0-2.
The Bacolod City-based softbelles, coached by Vilda Benjamin,
Dina Barlita and Lagrimas Ciokon, bounced back in the semifinals
to stun powerhouse US-East, 6-0, before absorbing a 0-8 setback
at the hands of the same US-South team in the finals. ETCS, which
has placed third in the World Series for two straight years, also
posted a 20-7 clobbering of the Bulldogs to bring home the title
in the 2006 Olympia Softball Tournament. The Bacoleņos also won
their fifth RP Series crown in Nueva Ecija, before finishing second
in the Palarong Pambansa in Naga City, Bicol in May. *
