Guv turns over P1.8M to
barangays, groups

Marine engines, checks, and mechanical shredders worth about P1.8 million were recently turned over by Gov. Joseph Maraņon to 37 barangays and organizations in Negros Occidental, a Capitol press release said.

This is part of the Coastal and Integrated Social Forestry projects of the provincial government through the Provincial Environment Management Office, which is aimed at protecting and conserving the coastal and upland natural resources.

Projects turned over included a multi-purpose pavement; organic coffee growing with cash crops; reforestation through the assisted natural regeneration project; alternative livelihood support for organized coastal communities-environment swap; and goat dispersal and upgrading program, the press release said. Mechanical shredders were given to two barangays for their solid waste management program while mechanical shredders were turned over to three local government units.

The projects are part of the seven-point agenda of Governor Maraņon, the press release added.*
