ETCS GIRLS PLACE 2ND IN W. SERIES

Bacolod City once again proved to be the Philippines' softball capital when the Education and Training Center School topped the RP series on its way to a successful bid in the World Series.

The ETCS softbelles, bannering the Asia-Pacific region, registered their best finish in the WS by placing first runner-up in the Junior League tournament in Kirkland, Washington in August.

ETCS, mentored by Lagrimas Ciokon, Vilda Benjamin and Dina Barlita, posted victories against US-West, US-Central, Latin America and US-East to reach the finals before bowing to defending champion US-South. The Bacolod-based clouters only absorbed two setbacks in the tournament, all coming at the hands of the reigning titlists.

It was the first time that a squad from Bacolod played for the crown since controversy-stricken Paglaum Village National High School took the country's first and only title in 2003.
