Policemen arrest houseboy
tagged in killing of couple

The houseboy tagged as the prime suspect in the brutal death of a couple in Brgy. Taculing, Bacolod City, was arrested by the police in Sitio Lampayas, Brgy. Carabalan, Himamaylan City, Nergos Occidental at about 8:20 a.m. Sunday.

Arrested was Jerry Portudo who had been hiding for more than a month after the killing of couple Elesio, 57, and Narcisa Londres, 58 whose bloodied bodies were found at their residence on Nov. 13.

Acting Bacolod City police director, Senior Supt. Ronilo Quebrar, yesterday said Portudo was arrested in a joint operation of the Police Station 6 led by Chief Insp. Noel Manaay, Regional Intelligence Unit led by SPO4 Julio Torcolas and Himamaylan PNP. Meanwhile, Jothan Paul Londres, eldest son of the couple, told the DAILY STAR yesterday in a phone interview, that he is glad that Portudo was arrested by the police, however he found his claim that he did not commit the crime alone shocking.

The younger Londres said Portudo claimed he was threatened by another person into killing his parents, which he found quite possible. He said he was not pointing a finger at anybody but what if Portudo's statements were true?

He said he and his family strongly believe that the crime was not committed only by Portudo, that there were other persons involved.

Manaay, meanwhile, said he had instructed case investigator PO1 Clemens Mabugat to turn Portudo over to the Himamaylan PNP where he will be charged for illegal possession of deadly weapon and resisting arrest.

Manaay said they are still validating Portudo's allegation that three unidentified persons threatened to shoot him if he will not kill the couple. He said Portudo's claim was only an alibi. Mabugat, meanwhile, said they are waiting for the issuance of an arrest warrant for Portudo so that they could served it to him and bring him back to their custody.*DMG
