The deadline for the submission of application forms for the 2007
Elite Basketball Camp tryouts in Western Visayas is Jan. 8 in Bacolod
City.
Coach Rommel Rasmo, who is assisting the International Basketball
Academy facilitate the tryouts, yesterday said that the coaches
should submit the applications to Dexter Dy at the Bacolod Visayan
Lumber. The tryouts for high school players from Region VI, which
is backed by Nike and IBA, is set from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on January
21 at the St. John's Institute Activity Center
Project director Alex Compton earlier said there will be no
limitations in the number of WV aspiring cagers who will be included
in the camp, but only 80 slots are up for grabs nationwide.
Compton said that they are staging the tryouts because they
want to maximize the individual skills of the best young players
in the country.
The camp is scheduled from March 30 to April 4 next year at
Brent International School in Mamplasan, Laguna with former Philippine
Basketball Association mentor Eric Altamirano and 10-year National
Basketball Association veteran David Wood among others being part
of the coaching staff.
Compton said that players from public schools will also be
allowed to join the tryouts as long as they are enrolled this school
year because they want to instill that education is important.
Elite will shoulder the expenses, including the fare, accommodation,
food, jerseys, shorts and shoes, of the cagers who will be chosen
for the six-day camp that is open to players below 18 years old,
he said.
The mythical five after the camp, which has calendared skill-building
workshops, scrimmages, truth talk sessions and an all-star game,
will be sponsored by Nike to participate in the All Asia Camp in
China, Compton added.
Interested coaches who want to inquire about the tryouts may contact
Rasmo at mobile number 09182518366 or Dy at mobile no. 09173004248.
