A 19-year-old student sustained a minor injury from a stray bullet
while five persons were wounded by firecrackers during the New Year
revelries in Oriental Negros, including Dumaguete City.
Hospital reports identified the victim of stray bullet as
Jonel Jandoc, 19, single, of Barangay Hiligaon, Siaton, Oriental
Negros who was hit in the left leg.
In Dumaguete, the victims of firecracker blasts were identified
as Greg Lovile Sancheja, 4, who was injured on his left ankle; Maybe
Laduo, 24, single of Buñao, Dumaguete -- second degree burns on
his palm; Manuel Carl Grinjo, 21, of San Jose Extension, and Inocencio
Almirol, 11, of Tubod, who both suffered second degree burns on
the hands.
In Siaton, Avelino Romano Jumawad, 38, married was injured
in his right upper arm also due to firecracker blasts, reports added.
Meanwhile, the Bayawan Philippine National Police reported
to the Provincial police headquarters in Agan-an, Sibulan the confiscation
of illegally sold assorted firecrackers and pyrotechnics devices,
in violation of City Ordinance 47.
Police operatives seized from stall owners Aristarco Autor, Neneng
Tumlad, Raul Villarmonte and Melchora Franconas, all residents of
Bayawan, various types of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices worth
P5,000. The police provincial command said that no other injuries
due to firecracker blasts were reported in other towns and cities
