BY CEDELF TUPAS

Fresh from another inspiring performance in the regional Palaro last week, Martina Guba of La Carlota City, Negros Occidental sustained her impressive form in Manila, where she earned slots to two international tournaments.

Guba topped the Philippine eliminations World Junior Tennis Championships at the expense of the country's top junior players that included long-time nemesis Regina Santiago and Sally Siso at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex courts.

A 6-0, 6-2, win over former tormentor Shanine Olivarez yesterday gave Guba the right to represent the country in the World Junior event in India from April 21-28.

The 14-year-old student of Doņa Hortensia Salas Benedicto National High School earlier breeze past JV Custodio, 6-0, 6-1, before dominating Siso, 6-0, 6-2. Guba also overwhelmed Santiago, 6-2, 6-3.

Guba, whose campaign was supported by the Negros Occidental Sports Foundation, Negros Occidental Tennis Association and the Negros Tennis Association, also grabbed the third spot in the RP Team to the Federation Cup set in Malaysia in May.

She trounced Santiago anew, 6-1, 6-3, before losing to Jesi Agra, 1-6, 2-6 and veteran Bambi Zoleta, 4-6, 2-6. Guba bounced back against Sarah Lim, winning 6-0, 6-4 to claim a place in the national squad. *CPT
